SHAKEN: BABY POWDER ON TRIAL

DESIGN / ANIMATION / ART DIRECTION

Brief

Shaken: Baby Powder On Trial examines claims made by some of the thousands of women who say that Johnson & Johnson's now-discontinued talc baby powder is responsible for their cancers.

I was asked by CNN to design the opener for the documentary 'Shaken: Baby Powder On Trial,' revealing unsettling truths about Johnson & Johnson’s Baby Powder. I used a microscope lens as a visual motif to introduce letters and documents. Faded pink and blue were used as a reference to the brand colors of the baby product. The title sequence uses the concept of 'revealing the truth' in a pile of baby powder.

I made this styleframe to use for concept approval and compositional reference.

Stefan Sokal modelled and lit the 3D scene using the reference. I used Particle Illusion to generate the particles.

Map explainer A

I spent time exploring GeoLayers and implementing 3D elements onto a 2D map. Simple 3D map markers were created in C4D and imported via Element 3D. This allowed me to utilize GeoLayers to import these models onto the map.

explainer B

The map evolved and we went with a simple graphic explainer. Additional animation is provided by Jihyun Moon.

Document Container

I took visual inspiration from a lab microscope to introduce documents and letters and tie the theme of the documentary into the graphics.
