HEADCASE

DESIGN / ANIMATION / ART DIRECTION

Brief

Headcase is a title sequence / main title inspired project that focuses on creating an abstract inspired world. I utilized Cinema4D, RedShift, Substance Painter and After Effects to create this project. I was inspired by scenes in various main titles, 2001: A Space Odyssey and the work of M.C. Escher.

This story follows a person as they navigate the shifting landscape of their thoughts.

I focused on using concrete blocks to add texture and symbolize hard-to-break beliefs or traumas. I used Redshift’s curvature node to give the cubes more realistic edges.

Build

CUBES

Cinema 4D’s MoGraph system made it easy to build and manipulate a stack of cubes. I used a wide lens to emphasize the scene's scale and highlight the overwhelming nature of the blocks compared to the character.

I focused on composition and silhouettes, drawing references from my favorite films and visual mediums. This shot was directly inspired by the monolith scene in 2001: A Space Odyssey.
